Amanda Serrano Defeats A Dogged Erika Cruz To Become Undisputed And Set Up A Rematch With Katie Taylor
Amanda Serrano defeated a dogged Erika Cruz at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, becoming the undisputed featherweight champion and guaranteeing a rematch with Katie Taylor.
Serrano was victorious in a contest in which both fighters were throwing combinations on the inside. During the third round, Cruz sustained a head injury that caused blood to trickle down her face.
This aided Serrano’s tactics in hitting her opponent more precisely with her combination punches. As the fight progressed, Serrano’s advantage became clearer.
The scorecards were all in favor of the Puerto Rican fighter: 98-92, 98-92, and 97-93. In doing so, Serrano became the first boxer from her country to have won titles from the four major international boxing bodies.
And in truth, the fans were left walking away with what could be one of the fights of the year. The Puerto Rican now has a record of 44 wins, two losses, one draw, and 30 knockouts. Cruz, on the other hand, presently has 15 wins, two losses, and three knockouts.
During the post-match comments, Matchroom boxing’s Eddie Hearn and Katie Taylor joined Serrano in the ring ahead of their bout on May 20th, 2023.
In her comments, Taylor said: “The last fight was an epic fight, and I think the next one’s going to be exactly the same,” to which Serrano added: “Now she deserves to fight in Ireland, and it’s going to be a bigger and better fight over there.”
So who will come out victorious?
