Amanda Serrano has downplayed her chances of facing Katie Taylor in a rematch.
The comments arrived following Taylor’s loss against Chantelle Cameron which ended her hopes of being undisputed in two-weight classes.
And given that Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has confirmed that a rematch is in the works for August, Serrano is adamant that this could take precedence over her desire to get revenge.
After all, Serrano had suffered a split-decision loss to Taylor as the latter retained her undisputed lightweight titles.
“Katie is a warrior and she’s a true fighter and she’s gonna wanna get that back and I know that’s going to be on her mind 100%.
“Losing hurts. It sucks bigtime and being [at] home it must have hurt a lot more. I’m just hoping she can mentally be ready for the rematch. I respect what Katie’s gonna do and that’s getting the rematch,” Serrano
Serrano had been on course to face Taylor on May 20th, 2023, only to pull out with an injury, which is when Cameron stepped in.
Despite this being the case, Serrano’s focus will be on facing Heather Hardy on August 5th, 2023.
Defeat here would all but end any hopes of facing Taylor, which is why she cannot come unstuck.
