Seven-division world champion Amanda Serrano (48-4-1, 31 KOs) will face Cheyenne Hanson (17-2, 13 KOs) in a featherweight clash on a card headlined by the lightweight title rematch between Stephanie Han and Holly Holm on May 30 in El Paso, Texas.
Serrano enters this fight following a unanimous decision victory over Reina Tellez on January 3 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Despite suffering severe swelling under her right eye, Serrano swept the scorecards (98-92, 97-93 x2) to retain her WBA and WBO featherweight titles. Serrano remains just one stoppage away from tying Christy Martin’s record of 32 career knockouts. For the 28-year-old Hanson, this fight represents her first major world title opportunity. Hanson is coming off a sixth-round stoppage of Flor Rodriguez just last month.
“When MVP told me that Han and Holm were going to rematch in Stephanie’s home town of El Paso, I said I want to get on the card to support these two queens. Women’s boxing is growing on a global level, and fights like this, now on ESPN and contested in three-minute rounds, are proof of how far we’ve come. I respect every opponent who steps in the ring, and I know Hanson is coming to win and she has KO power.
