Amir Khan remains keen on fighting Manny Pacquiao in spite of his retirement from the sport.
Khan’s last fight was not his finest moment as he was stopped by his British rival, Kell Brook, in round six. In the aftermath of the fight, Khan tested positive for the drug Ostarine. Despite denying that there was any intentional use, the Brit received a two-year ban. Thereafter, Khan was not allowed to box until April 2024. And now that the ban is almost over, Khan was looking to potentially getting back in the ring.
“If I fight Manny Pacquiao I think it would be a brilliant fight. He’s someone I’ve always looked up to and trained with him so we know each other quite well. Time-wise it’s also good for us both. That’s one fight that would lift me up and I’d want to perform because he’s a legend. In the last fight with Brook it wasn’t the same. I knew I had made enough money, I could chill out – I didn’t even want to be there. People want to see me fight. People are entertained by watching me so I have to keep performing for them. I’ve then become a people’s fighter,” Khan
The match-up would pit two former sparring partners and stablemates against each other since they both trained under Freddie Roach at the Wild Card gym. However, a lot would also depend on Pacquiao. The former eight division champion is targeting a run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will take priority. And at the age of 44, does Pacquiao want to get back in the ring with a former world champion?
