Aldo Hopes For The Best McGregor Against Chandler

Jose Aldo wants Conor McGregor to return to his best when he faces Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29.

Aldo knows what it takes to face McGregor, having squared off against him in 2015 at UFC 194. McGregor knocked out Aldo 13 seconds into the first round to become the UFC Featherweight Champion. Several questions remain over whether McGregor can recapture the form that made him a two-weight world champion.

The Irishman broke his leg in his defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. That was McGregor’s third defeat in his last four UFC bouts. At 35, can McGregor bounce back from a career-threatening injury, or is the inactivity too much? While Aldo never got the McGregor rematch, he wants to see The Notorious back at the top.

“I have great expectations for that fight. And as I always say, I always root for the guys who I fought and the guys who have beaten me because, you know, that just proves that I lost to the best and I lost to champions. So I hope that he can go in there and be the Conor of old, and be aggressive, and go in there to finish the fight, and not leave it to the judges. But you know, I expect great things from that fight,” Aldo said

Aldo has questions about his UFC future. He has one fight left on his UFC contract. He faces Jonathan Martinez at UFC 301 on May 4. Aldo reversed his retirement after losing to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278 in 2020. While he is open to extending his deal with the UFC, Aldo is also open to exploring opportunities in boxing, having boxed twice last year. MMA fans will be keeping a close eye on McGregor and Aldo’s future.
