Bivol Retains WBA Light Heavyweight Title, Stops Zinad In The Sixth

Dmitry Bivol retained his WBA Light Heavyweight Title with a sixth-round stoppage win over Malik Zinad to remain undefeated, taking his record to 23-0.

Zinad was a late replacement after Artur Beterbiev pulled out with a knee injury, preventing the undisputed fight at 175. Bivol remained unfazed, as he was in complete control from the opening round. Zinad shot out a series of jabs, but Bivol covered up well and then fired off two left hooks. A clean left hook sent Zinad to the canvas.

While he beat the count, it was an ominous sign. Bivol continued his offense in the second, stepping into his shots with his jab as Zinad’s nose poured with blood. Bivol continued to come forward with his jabs as he attempted to break down his opponent. Zinad’s corner urged their man to up the tempo and let his hands go.

Zinad had some success in the fifth, as a cross popped Bivol’s head backwards. But it was all over in the sixth. Bivol jabbed to the body and followed up with a huge left hook. The champion then threw numerous lefts and rights, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
