Bivol vs. Beterbiev Set For June 1st, Free On ESPN

Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol’s Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship bout has been confirmed for June 1 in Saudi Arabia, live on ESPN in the US and Canada.

The news will go down well with boxing fans since it will not be on PPV, making it accessible to a wider audience. Arum praised Turki Alalshikh for allowing that, as the Kingdom puts on the biggest fights. The Beterbiev-Bivol fight will also be part of a wider five vs five card, featuring the best fighters from Matchroom and Queensberry taking each other on. It will be Saudi Arabia’s second undisputed bout of 2024, following Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk.

Bivol will defend his WBA title for the 12th time, while Beterbiev risks his WBO, WBC and IF belts. Both are undefeated and coming off wins. Bivol beat Lyndon Arthur in a one-sided unanimous decision, while Beterbiev stopped Callum Smith to extend his 100 percent KO rate to 20-0. Arum was happy to see boxing fans get the biggest fights.

“It’s happening on June 1st. It’s a terrific fight, and the only reason it was able to happen is because the Saudis financed it. You couldn’t do it on PPV, but it’ll be put on June 1st in Riyadh. We’ve arranged with His Excellency that the fight will be distributed on free television on ESPN in the U.S. and Canada,” Arum said
