Brandon Figueroa Vs. Mark Magsayo Finalized For March

They will fight for the vacant interim featherweight title.

Brandon Figueroa has his next opponent set, but it isn’t Stephen Fulton.

Instead, it’s against Filipino contender Mark Magsayo for the vacant interim WBC featherweight title on Saturday, March 4 from Ontario, California.

The matchup was first rumored earlier this month when two other bouts had to be reworked, which included Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue.

A rematch between Fulton and Figueroa was reported to be in the works for February 25, but Fulton later agreed to terms to defend his super bantamweight titles against former undisputed bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue on that date.

It was then simultaneously announced that Figueroa was finalizing a March fight with Magsayo.

The other piece of the puzzle is Rey Vargas vs. O’Shaquie Foster, which is happening on February 11 for the vacant junior lightweight belt.

Vargas currently holds the WBC featherweight title, and it’s unclear what weight he’ll fight at after facing Foster, he told media. That’s why Figueroa-Magsayo is battling for the vacant interim title.

Vargas had taken the belt from Magsayo in July by split decision.

For Figueroa, he iced the controversial loss to Fulton by defeating Carlos Castro by TKO in July. Magsayo has not fought since losing to Vargas.
