Canelo Will Face Benavidez If He Beats Andrade Next Month Says Hearn

Eddie Hearn has backed Canelo Alvarez to fight David Benavidez if the ‘Mexican Monster’ beats Demetrius Andrade.

The two undefeated fighters face each other on November 25th, 2023, for what is currently Showtime’s last ever card in boxing. A win will put one boxer in the position to fight Canelo Alvarez for his undisputed belts at super middleweight by picking up the WBC interim belt. Benavidez is the current holder, having been in a mandatory position for over a year. And a win over Andrade would increase the calls on the WBC to order the mandatory. And provided that Benavidez wins, as the boxer is expected to do, Hearn expects Alvarez to fight the super middleweight.

“When you look at Canelo, you got to look at where the real challenges are coming from. Benavidez against Andrade is a good fight. I expect Benavidez to stop Demetrius Andrade, and when he does, I think he’s going to make a real claim to fight Canelo Alvarez, and I think Canelo at that point will take the fight. I think it will be that big that he will take it, and I don’t think he’s afraid of David Benavidez. Canelo isn’t afraid of anyone, and he will fight everybody. The deal’s got to be right, of course, but he’ll still fight them,” Hearn stated

Nevertheless, Alvarez’s comments following his win over Jermell Charlo showed a reluctance to face the fighter. When asked if Benavidez could be next, Alvarez remained coy over who the next opponent could be.

“We don’t know [if Benavidez is next],” Canelo

However, with a three-fight deal with the PBC, the prospect of a Benavidez fight would be easier, given they are both under the same banner. And with Mexican Independence Day/ Cinco De Mayo Weekend available as possible dates, a Canelo-Benavidez bout could be in the offing.
