Jermall Charlo Will Defend His WBC Middleweight Title Against Juan Macias Montiel

Fighting an opponent like Juan Macias Montiel is not an ideal scenario, but taking care of business is Jermall Charlo’s number one priority on June 19.

In one of the more underwhelming matchups presented within the PBC’s roster of bouts, Charlo will defend his WBC middleweight crown in what he describes as a “no-win situation”.

It’s true that Mexican Montiel is not in the class of fellow 160-pound title holders like Demetrius Andrade (WBO) or Gennady Golovkin (IBF). But the Texan is struggling to nail down his rivals for the kind of unification showdowns fans want to see.

“I can’t make them get into the ring with me,” stated Charlo. “I’ll continue fighting fights like these. Somebody’s got to try to get the WBC belt one day.”

Jermall (31-0, 22 KOs) has not ruled out a move up to 168 if the correct opponent can be found. His name has already been linked to the likes of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs.

All of this will become a non-issue if he does not first deal with big-punching Montiel (22-4-2, 22 KOs) in Houston, live on Showtime.
