Chris Eubank Jr. Vows To Beat Liam Smith To Prove His Critics Wrong

Chris Eubank Jr. has vowed to show the boxing community that he is a better fighter than Liam Smith.

Eubank Jr. suffered a fourth-round TKO defeat in January at the AO Arena, Manchester, as question marks emerged over the future of his career.

The manner in which Eubank Jr.’s chin failed to hold up to a sustained attack by Smith was singled out. While that may have been the case, it is important to bear in mind the following.

Prior to the Smith fight, Eubank Jr. had been on course to fight Conor Benn. However, the latter failed two drug tests for Clomophene, which is when Smith stepped in.

And yet, the weight cut for the fight, which required Eubank Jr. to get to 157 lbs, a career-low to face Benn, may have taken its toll.

Not only that, but there was a perception that Eubank Jr. may have overlooked Smith. He infamously claimed that he only needed to be ‘50 percent’ to beat him.

That ultimately backfired, which has left Eubank Jr. with a point to prove.

“It’s the one that I needed, not that I one that I wanted. I can’t let this man walk through life for the rest of his life saying that he beat me. I have to right that wrong. I have to even the score.

“I have the show the people that I am the better fighter. I know I’m the better fighter. But most of the people now think Liam Smith is the better fighter.

“I can’t live with that. I know I’m a better fighter than this guy and he just has a win over me that’s going to be on my record for the rest of my life,” Eubank Jr

However, Eubank Jr. will have to wait to get his revenge. The rematch has been postponed on two occasions, as the latest date of July 1st, 2023, was called off due to an injury to Smith.

With that being said, the new fight date cannot come soon enough.
