Conor McGregor Announces His Summer Return – ‘It’s On’

‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor says he will make his long-awaited UFC return in the summer.

The former two-weight world champion’s last appearance was a UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier. He suffered a broken leg, which has kept him out since 2021. The Irishman first teased his comeback on New Year’s Day. McGregor announced a fight with Michael Chandler for June 29. Dana White responded by saying there was no such date. He wanted McGregor to have a full training camp and blamed his extensive wealth for the delay. But McGregor has suggested that his return has been confirmed.

“We got confirmation a few days ago that it’s all systems go. And ‘The Mac’, ‘The Notorious’ will be returning to the UFC Octagon this summer. I had [my training] camp in Dubai [months ago], I had a camp in Cannes. I was preparing, and then I was kind of getting nothing back. And then other things came up and I kind of dipped out. But now, it’s on. So, there’s no messing now. I cannot dip out now,” McGregor said

The UFC has yet to announce a date or an opponent, but it is increasingly likely to be Michael Chandler. Chandler has shown his frustration at the delay. He recently called out McGregor on WWE’s Monday Night Raw, which got the Irishman’s attention. McGregor vowed to beat Chandler comprehensively.

“Shut up, Michael, you f—ing imbecile. The man doesn’t shut up. I seen him on ‘Raw.’ I like Mike — I’m going to bust him up. I’m going to bust Mike up, yeah? If I say it, I do it. … If I say it, it gets done. Put that on my stone,” McGregor added

During his time away from the Octagon, McGregor has been promoting his film Road House, which will be released on March 21. He stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, who praised McGregor’s humble approach to acting. The Irishman admitted rejecting numerous roles before taking this one. While a UFC return is the primary aim, McGregor is open to acting in the future. At 35, McGregor cannot stay inactive for too long.
