Conor McGregor’s ‘Road House’ Breaks Amazon’s Streaming Record

Conor McGregor’s film debut for ‘Road House’ has set a streaming viewership record for Amazon Prime Video.

According to Deadline, the film drew 50 million viewers globally across a two-week period from its March 21 release, becoming Amazon MGM Studios’ most-viewed title. The Notorious became the highest-earning actor for a debut project, earning between $5-10 million.

McGregor played the film’s villain, Knox, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, Elwood Dalton, who works as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse. Gyllenhaal praised McGregor for showing ‘humility’ on set, while the reviews lauded McGregor’s acting skills.

“The groundbreaking, successful debut of Road House is a testament to the hard work and commitment from the entire Road House filmmaking team and the film’s cast led by the phenomenal Jake Gyllenhaal. The world is absolutely loving this entertaining, action-packed ride anchored by the performances of Jake, Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Darren Barnet, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, JD Pardo, and the rest of our stellar cast. It’s great to see the film taking off with both fans of the iconic original as well as a huge turnout from new audiences. This incredible film is really giving everyone something to talk about, and we couldn’t be more proud,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios

The success has not been enough for McGregor to take up further acting roles. He was initially open to the idea, but he later backtracked on those comments. That leaves McGregor free to make his UFC return, which he expects to happen in the summer. His rumored opponent, Michael Chandler, also confirmed there was ‘confirmation’ in place for that fight. However, if that fails, McGregor has shown that he may have a future in acting.
