Cyborg, Pacheco Among Fighters Criticizing The PFL

Numerous fighters, including Cris Cyborg and Larissa Pacheco, have spoken out against the PFL.

Following the PFL’s acquisition of Bellator last year, Cyborg was unhappy with the delay in her next fight. She had been linked with the Kayla Harrison fight. However, that would break down as Harrison left to sign with the UFC. Several fighters, Gegard Mousasi and Douglas Lima, suggested that the PFL was not giving them fights due to their Bellator contracts.

Mousasi has not fought for over a year since losing to Fabian Edwards at Bellator 296. He claimed the PFL had cut communication with him to avoid honoring his Bellator contract. He could take legal action if his future is not sorted immediately.

“They feel like I make too much money…Whoever they cannot let fight because they make too much money, they just don’t let ’em fight. If someone don’t want me, I’m like, ‘OK, f*** it, I go,’ but my team around me is like, ‘F*** it, we sue them’. So, if it was up to me, I would just go. But I don’t know, we’ll see,” Mousasi said

Donn Davis has now responded, saying there will be hiccups due to the transition period following the acquisition of Bellator. However, he reassured fans that only 5-10 percent of fighters needed their futures addressing.

“It’s one of 205 (fighters we acquired from Bellator). You expect five to 10 percent issues on any deal. You can’t be perfect. You can be 90 to 95 percent. We’ve had a handful of people say, ‘Oh, I wish it went this way, I wish it went that way.’ I’m delighted. I’m very, very proud of how we treated our fighters…Will everybody’s contract be honored? Of course. Do some people have different ideas of what works and what doesn’t work? Sure. But we’re fair and reasonable with everybody. Will all 205 fighters (from Bellator) have everything fall the way they want? No,” Davis said

Cyborg should face Pacheco next on a potential Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira card. However, given that an official announcement has not been made, there is still uncertainty. Ngannou has also lost his son recently. That leaves doubts about whether the event will go ahead. Cyborg and Pacheco’s social media activity shows their dissatisfaction with the PFL.
