Dana White Outlines Plans For Aspinall’s Interim UFC Title Defense

UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall’s next fight could happen soon.

That is according to Dana White. Aspinall has been chasing a title shot ever since the UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones pulled out of his UFC 295 title defense against Stipe Miocic due to injury. Aspinall was added to that card, facing Sergei Pavlovich for the interim title. Aspinall stopped Pavlovich in round one, following up on his first-round KO against Marcin Tybura

Aspinall wanted Jones stripped and the chance to fight Miocic for the belt. White refused, leaving Aspinall on the sidelines. While Aspinall may have been impressive in his last two fights, he has only fought two rounds since his loss and knee injury to Curtis Blaydes in 2021. Now, White plans on keeping the fighter active.

“Jones is set to fight Stipe. I hope that the winner of that fight, will fight Tom. Yeah, we’ll see [about it potentially happening in England], I agree… Well, yeah. If you think right now, it’s March, who knows [what will happen]? With Jon Jones and Stipe, because of the injury, who knows when they’ll fight. It’s not right to let Tom sit. If Tom wants to defend the title, we will absolutely do it,” White said
