Dana White Remembers Meeting A 13-Year-Old David Benavidez – ‘He Told Me He Would Be A World Champion’

Dana White recalled meeting a 13-year-old David Benavidez, who told him he would become a world champion.

Fast-forward to today and Benavidez is a two-time WBC Super Middleweight Champion. He defeated Ronald Gavril by a split decision to win the WBC belt in 2017. At 20, he became the youngest super middleweight champion in history. He was then stripped of his title in 2018 after testing positive for cocaine.

The Mexican Monster would win the belt again in 2019, beating Anthony Dirrell. However, Benavidez lost the title a year later after missing weight before his fight with Roamer Alexis Angulo. Benavidez has just come off a unanimous decision win against Oleksandr Gvozdyk in his first fight at 175.

He picked up the WBC Interim Light Heavyweight Belt, making him mandatory for the winner of Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol. They fight for undisputed at 175 on October 12. Since Benavidez has the WBC interim belts at 168 and 175, he must decide which mandatory position to pursue. White was delighted to see the progress made.

“I met @benavidez300 when he was 13 and he told me he would be a world champion. Love this kind of s**t. #manifesting,” White
