David Morrell Jr. vs. Radivoje Kalajdzic Set For June 22 At 175

David Morrell Jr. is reportedly in line to face Radivoje Kalajdzic in a WBA ‘Regular’ Light Heavyweight Title clash on June 22.

Fernando Sabatini reports Morrell will move up from super middleweight to fight on the Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin card. Should Morrell win, he would have to vacate his WBA ‘Regular’ Super Middleweight Belt if he defended such a belt at 175. The move follows after the Cuban failed to make fights with either Canelo Alvarez, David Benavidez, or Caleb Plant at 168.

However, a victory against Kalajdzic makes Morrell mandatory for the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol. Beterbiev and Bivol fight for the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship on June 1. But Morrell will face competition from Benavidez.

The Mexican Monster will likely feature on the Davis-Martin card and box Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the WBC Interim Light Heavyweight Title. A Benavidez win leaves the sanctioning bodies with a decision over which mandatory is called first. If Morrell and Benavidez cannot get a title shot at 175, there is always the possibility of revisiting a fight between them. If it can’t be made at 168, the next best thing may be a clash at 175.
