Spence is naturally bigger than the welterweight division that he fights under, despite having competed at it for most of his career.
And now he is set to face the biggest test of his career when he faces the WBO champion Terrence Crawford on July 29th, 2023.
Victory would give Spence the status of becoming the first-ever undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era. And if that were the case, there would be nothing else to accomplish in the division.
With that being said, Spence is keeping an eye on the future.
“We’re not thinking about Canelo right now, but I’d definitely take that fight. I feel like 165lbs-168lbs, that’s more my natural weight, and it’s a lot easier for me to make, so I’d definitely take that fight,” Spence
Moving up to 168 lbs to face Canelo for his undisputed titles would make sense from a legacy point of view. Not only that but there are question marks over whether or not Canelo is the same fighter.
But if there is anyone that could bring the best out of him, then the dangerous Spence would fit that bill.
