Fury Back in Training, Plans Early 2017 Comeback

Tyson Fury was at the top of the boxing world at the end of 2015, when he upset Wladimir Klitschko to become heavyweight champion. Due to drug use and mental health issues, Fury fell apart in 2016. Back in training, Klitschko says he is ready to regain his glory and conquer the division again in 2017.

Boxing Scene has reported that Fury (25-0) is back in the gym and is aiming to return to the ring in March or April of 2017.

Fury is reportedly in training with his cousin, undefeated heavyweight and mandatory challenger to the WBO belt Hughie Fury.

Scheduled twice to face Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch in 2016, Fury never made it to the ring. In the summer he pulled out of the fight due to an ankle injury. The fight was rescheduled for October, and that’s when Fury truly fell apart: he tested positive for cocaine after admitting to frequent use in a Rolling Stone interview, and vacated his titles to deal with his mental health issues.

Fury reflected on his turbulent year with a positive Tweet prior to Christmas.

"I’ve had a nightmare 2016," Fury wrote. "[and] done a lot of stuff I’m not proud of.

“But my promise to [you] is I’ll return [in] 2017 [and] takeover [the heavyweight division]."

Fury currently has his boxing license suspended. His return may not necessarily be up to him, as the Anti-Doping Panel will have to make a ruling concerning Fury’s failed drug tests.
