Ryan Garcia (26-2, 21 KO, 1 NC) refuses to accept Gervonta Davis’ (30-1, 28 KO) one condition to face him in a rematch.
Davis, who stopped Garcia with a body shot in the seventh round of their 2023 fight at a 136-pound catchweight, initially said he would accept a rematch at 140 pounds, but not 147. Garcia rejected those terms.
“Gervonta cool but he don’t want the smoke … I went to 136 you can’t come to 147?”
Garcia is coming off a second-round stoppage of Conor Benn on September 12, retaining his WBC welterweight title. He has targeted a unification fight with WBA champion Teofimo Lopez for Cinco de Mayo weekend in 2027, but does not want to wait until May to fight again, so he is eyeing a quick ring return for December or January.
As for Ryan’s opponent, he has named Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (28-3-2, 18 KO) and the man Garcia sparred with while training for the Benn fight, Angel Fierro (23–5-2, 18KO), as possible options ahead of his fight vs. Lopez.
“I don’t want to wait until May to fight,” Garcia said. “Why do I have to wait until May? I have no bruises. I have no hits to the head. Why can’t I fight?”
