Gervonta Davis Vs. Teofimo Lopez Fight Rumors Escalate

Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis are reportedly in talks for a mega fight in 2024.

According to reports, Davis is currently focused on getting his personal affairs sorted after his recent release from prison for violating the terms of his house arrest. And as part of that process, Davis confirmed that he would not be fighting in 2023. However, his trainer, Calvin Ford, did tease that a big fight was being planned without divulging into specifics.

“Right now, something big is coming. I can tell you that. It’s quiet for a reason. They’re trying to seal the deal. It’s going to make the world turn,” Ford stated

But now it appears that it could be Lopez. The ‘Takeover’ is the current WBO junior welterweight champion, having beaten Josh Taylor via a unanimous decision. Thereafter, Lopez indicated his desire to retire by only returning to fight for nine-figure paydays. And since he has gone back on his retirement claims, a fight with Davis could satisfy the requirement of a mega event.

“I think the only way you get Teo back is a nine-figure contract deal. Because I’ve made ESPN over a $100 million. I’m still getting paid a million dollars to fight while all these other fighters have not even done a quarter of what I’ve done and accomplished in the sport, they’re getting eight, 10, 12, 15 million dollars,” Lopez

If the Lopez fight does get made, it would signal Davis’ intention of facing the biggest names. His last fight was against Ryan Garcia, which sold over a reported $1.2 million pay-per-views. And a fight with Lopez would undoubtedly do big numbers, with both ESPN/Showtime getting behind it. So, moving forward, a huge fight could be on the cards.
