Haney vs. Garcia Agreed For April 20

Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia have reportedly agreed to fight on April 20.

Talks over the fight first started when Haney beat Regis Prograis in his first fight at 140 to win the WBC Junior Welterweight Title. Negotiations ended suddenly after Garcia pulled the plug in favor of facing Rolando Romero. Garcia claimed it was the better business move, allowing him to get a world title in a less risky fight and secure a bigger unification with Haney.

The fight never got made as Romero signed a deal to face Isaac Cruz. Rolly accused Garcia’s team of trying to make another fight after Oscar de La Hoya stated Romero priced himself out. That left Garcia with no choice but to return to Haney, with no other options available. Now ESPN’s Mike Coppinger has confirmed a deal is done.

Given how he backed down last time, Garcia will likely have to make more concessions. It will be only his second fight with Derrick James, meaning Garcia still has to accustom himself to his new trainer. Following the Gervonta Davis loss, Garcia knows he cannot fall short at the top level again if he desires to be a PPV star.
