Ilia Topuria Expresses Respect For Sean O’Malley – “He’s A Showman, I Like Him”

It has now been made extremely clear that the UFC’s 145-pound titleholder Ilia Topuria is quite fond of the bantamweight champion in Sean O’Malley.

Topuria is undefeated through 15 fights in his career, 7 of which took place inside the UFC Octagon, and is most recently coming off a knockout title victory over the dominant Alexander Volkanovski. Likewise, O’Malley is seemingly at the top of his game as well, with 7 straight wins and a very strong title defense versus Marlon Vera in March.

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, the featherweight king shared his opinion of his fellow titleholder, and it certainly seems that O’Malley has earned Topuria’s respect.

“He’s doing a great, amazing job,” Topuria told Sportskeeda of O’Malley. “He’s becoming bigger and bigger in the sport. He’s a big star in the United States. Even as a fighter, I like his fight style, too – I like his movements. Everything he does, he’s a showman. I like him. he’s doing a great job.”

Following O’Malley’s win over Vera at UFC 299, he called out Topuria during his post fight interview, but clearly based on the calm response, “El Matador” is not going to bite. Many speculate that Topuria will next face Max Holloway, and it seems likely he is most focused on that. Additionally, the undefeated champion even recently touched on his interest in a bout with Conor McGregor.
