Ilia Topuria Follows Up McGregor Callout In Recent Spanish Interview – “Beating Him Would Be A Piece Of Cake”

Newly crowned featherweight champion Ilia Topuria followed his title victory by calling out “The Notorious” Conor McGregor at UFC 298 in Anaheim, but he didn’t stop there.

Topuria claimed 145-pound UFC gold with a vicious knockout of long-reining champion Alexander Volkanovski last Saturday. He has since returned to his home country of Spain with the belt, and is making the rounds, soaking in the glory.

His most notable moment so far on this victory lap came earlier this week when he spoke to members of the media that represent Spain’s MARCA daily news. During the interview, the champion spoke on McGregor once again, expressing that he is more interested in alcohol these days, rather than fighting. Additionally, Topuria even went on to say that he would a prime McGregor without much issue.

“He is good enough to drink two bottles of whiskey. I don’t know if he is ready to fight. Even if he was in his prime, beating him would be a piece of cake.”

UFC 298 Post Fight Interview:

“Conor McGregor, if you still have some balls, I will be waiting for you in Spain”

While Topuria versus McGregor on paper seems like an intriguing matchup, it is highly unlikely that the former double champ will be interested in fighting at 145-pounds ever again. In the years since his last appearance, his 2021 trilogy match with Dustin Poirier in the lightweight division, McGregor has put on some serious size and certainly intends to compete in a higher weight class when he makes his long awaited return.

McGregor has even teased coming in at 185-pounds for his return versus Michael Chandler, but this announcement that he made back in December was far from official.
