Jake Paul Stops Andre August With An Uppercut In The First Round

Jake Paul beat his first professional boxer with an uppercut to stop Andre August in the first round of their cruiserweight clash.

Paul arrived into the fight with four knockouts, but none were against professional boxers. His first fight against a pro boxer, Tommy Fury, ended in a loss, as the pressure was on Paul to perform. It took him only one round to silence the doubters. With almost 30 seconds left of the round, Paul followed his straight left with a right uppercut. August hit the canvas and never recovered as the referee stopped the fight.

The win sets up a potential rematch with Tommy Fury. It also justifies Paul’s choice to pick a professional boxer with a lower profile to gain that much-needed experience. Looking ahead, Paul was excited for the future.

Post-Fight Comments

“I said first-round knockout all week. I manifested it. I said I needed to go back to the old ‘Problem Child.’ I’ve been too nice to people. He went night-night… I don’t know what I proved tonight. I’m just going to do me… He didn’t even last two minutes… All I wanted to do was give you a knockout for Christmas.

“More boxing prospects [next]. More experience. More time in the ring. Under the bright lights staying active. And if the money fights come, I got smoke for them too. But right now I’m focused on being one of the best in the world and creating one of the greatest sports stories in the history of sports.

“A couple of years ago, I didn’t really have any challenges. I was just beating everybody, not really focused, doing stuff outside of the gym I shouldn’t have been. And now I’m lasered in. I found my spiritually. And that’s changed my whole entire life and staying on the grind, in the gym, consistent.’ Everyone who has something to say about me,’’ Paul said. “Oh, he can’t do this. He can’t sell. He’s not big. What is he doing fighting this guy, fighting that guy? Shut the (expletive) up!” Paul stated
