Jaron Ennis Eyes May 4 Clash With Cody Crowley On Canelo Alvarez Card

Jaron Ennis could face his IBF Welterweight mandatory Cody Crowley on the May 4 Canelo Alvarez card.

Canelo is expected to headline Cinco de Mayo Weekend, although there is no news about his next opponent. Ennis could find himself on the card after beating Roiman Villa last July. Ennis has not been very active as he sued NOW Boxing for a breach of contract. The welterweight wants his contract cancelled and damages over $1 million.

Ennis alleges his four-year contract allowed him to fight four times in each of the first two years, three times in year three, and the same in year four. But since Ennis fought only ten times in over five years, the boxer wants a fresh start. Fighting on Cinco de Mayo Weekend exposes Ennis to a huge audience, boosting his chances of becoming a PPV star. If he desires to get the Terence Crawford bout, he must put on a statement performance.

Crowley has not fought since beating Abel Ramos last year via a majority decision. If the Crowley fight does not go ahead, there is the chance of a bout with Mario Barrios, the current WBC Interim Welterweight Champion. At 26, Boots is entering the prime of his career, as he seeks the biggest fights.
