Jermall Charlo Being Targeted By Jose Benavidez Jr. & Daniel Jacobs

Jose Benavidez Jr. is targeting a world title shot against Jermall Charlo at middleweight.

The latter is the WBC middleweight champion, who has expressed his intention to return by the end of the year following his personal issues.

Therefore, Benavidez Jr. who entered the division by stopping Sladan Janjanin is looking to make a name for himself.

The fact that he has been campaigning at 154 suggests that the new weight will only aid him due to the absence of the weight cuts.

And since the division is wide open, as Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin are no longer contenders in the weight class, Benavidez has made his intentions clear.

“I want Charlo. I want that belt at 160. Let’s make it happen. I’ll fight whoever at 160,” Benavidez Jr said

Much in the same way, Daniel Jacobs has expressed his desire to face Jermall Charlo in his first fight since his defeat to John Ryder.

Jacobs has never been the same since his defeat to Canelo Alvarez in 2019. A poor run of form meant that he only fought three times in three years.

This included two wins and a loss to Gabriel RosadoJulio Cesar Chavez Jr. and John Ryder respectively.

In contrast, Charlo has not fared any better. His last fight was all the way back in 2021 when he overcame Juan Macias Montiel.

However, mental health issues meant that the boxer could not stay active in the sport. However, the WBC did confirm that they would support Charlo, as the middleweight champion kept his belt.

And with the two fighters looking for a way to bounce back, this could be the perfect opportunity.

“I’m not beefing with anybody, but everyone knows I’ve been wanting for years to fight Jermall Charlo. That’s the fight that I still want. I don’t know what’s going on with it. I’m ready for that fight, mentally & physically. We’ll see what happens in the future.

“I got one or two more in me. I’m looking for the right fight. I ain’t looking for no step aside, no fill-in fights. It’s been a few years since I’ve been calling out people, and I haven’t received any feedback. I’m just waiting for the right fight, but like I said, the time will come,” Jacobs
