Leonard Ellerbe Leaves Mayweather Promotions; Richard Schaefer Replaces Him

Floyd Mayweather has announced Leonard Ellerbe’s departure from his role as CEO of Mayweather Promotions, with Richard Schaefer taking over.

Ellerbe began his career with Mayweather as his bucket man before transitioning into the CEO role in 2007 when the company was formed. He has promoted some of the biggest fights in the sport, including Mayweather’s bouts with Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor. Since then, Ellerbe has been backing Gervonta Davis. Tank is one of the ‘faces of boxing’ as he takes on Frank Martin in a defense of his WBA Lightweight Title on Saturday. During the build-up, Ellerbe denied rumors he was leaving.

“Man, I don’t listen to none of that stuff. I’m doing what I do. I’m doing what I do. [There is] no [truth to any of that],” Ellerbe said

But Mayweather has confirmed the news, saying Ellerbe’s decision was motivated by his desire to spend more time with his family.

Schaefer is the former CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. He departed the company in 2014, forming  Ringstar Sports two years later. He has vast experience in the sport, having helped make Mayweather vs De La Hoya. Schaefer was keen to get started in his new role.
