Malik Scott Claims Anthony Joshua Is Avoiding A Bout With Deontay Wilder

Malik Scott no longer feels that Anthony Joshua wants to face Deontay Wilder.

The two fighters had long been linked with a fight ever since talks first emerged over a potential undisputed fight all the way back in 2018. However, since then, nothing has materialized. The latest attempt at securing the fight in Saudi Arabia failed. Skills Challenge Entertainment had been linked with making the fight only for them to pull out. Instead, the General Sports Authority became the leading force in Saudi boxing as they favored the Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou bout instead. While that may be true, Scott felt that Joshua’s reluctance to fight was also hindering things.

“When you’re the hardest puncher in the history of the sport, it’s very hard for guys to want to fight you. I’m going to say a number. Four million dollars. Fighters would rather stay poor than make four million dollars [fighting Deontay]. That’s a tragedy. They’d rather ask for 15 or 20 [million], knowing it’s not on the table for them, but they’d rather ask for that. It’s insane. Malik said

In reality, Joshua may have an easier path to a world title. The winner of the Fury-Usyk fight will be required to defend against Filip Hrgovic. And if their rematch goes ahead instead of a Hrgovic bout, then Joshua would fight the Croatian for a vacant title. With that being said, Joshua’s desire to rebuild himself may be achieved without the need to face a risky fight against Wilder.
