Michael Page Details His Journey To This Weekend’s UFC Debut – “I Never Lost Sight Of Wanting To Eventually Come Here”

Following a 19-bout tenure with Bellator, Michael “Venom” Page is ready to make his long intended debut with the industry’s leading promotion at UFC 299.

Back in December, it was announced that the striking specialist had signed with the UFC following the PFL’s acquisition of Bellator. For his first test inside the Octagon, “Venom” will square off with the well-rounded, and always entertaining, Kevin Holland.

At this Wednesday’s UFC 299 press conference, Page explained that he had always seen signing with UFC as the long-term goal, despite his dedication to Bellator that lasted 10 years.

“It was my intention at the start,” Page told MMA Junkie and other reporters Wednesday at a pre-fight news conference. “It wasn’t something that I ever lost sight of. I was a typical fan before, so only knew UFC. I was the probably the guy who would ask you, ‘Do you do UFC?’ at the time. … I never lost sight of wanting to eventually come here at some point, just because it was my original goal.”

Back in August 2022, Page made arrangements to step away from Bellator temporarily to explore additional opportunities, resulting in a match with Mike Perry at BKFC 27. While he was unable to clinch the victory on the judges’ scorecards versus Perry, he expressed that this bout the began the conversation of his willingness to fight outside Bellator.

“Their first reach out, which was kind of a mistake on their part, because it kind of showed their interest,” Page said. “Basically when I did my bareknuckle fight and I announced that I did my bareknuckle fight, people started reaching out like, ‘Oh, is he a free agent?’ The UFC reached out like, ‘Is he a free agent?’ So we’re like, ‘Oh, somebody is interested, huh?’ So obviously that was them initiating it. It was like, ‘No, no, still with Bellator and got X amount of fights, but I’ve got this amount of time left and we can speak thereafter. The conversation just remained open. We just kind of started from there and it’s weird.”
