Poirier Hints At A Gaethje Trilogy

Dustin Poirier (30-10) has left the door open to a third fight with newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje (28-4), hinting at a potential comeback.

Poirier retired at UFC 318 last July after losing to Max Holloway in their trilogy but has since suggested he could return. After watching Gaethje’s upset victory over Ilia Topuria on the White House lawn in person last weekend, a return could become a reality. Responding to a fan who asked if he would come out of retirement to face Gaethje, Poirier hinted at a return.

“Yes but first things first — Justin Gaethje you are a savage. Congratulations on everything. It was inspiring to be there in person and watch you put on a masterful performance and turn your dream into reality, undisputed. Nothing but respect for you,” Poirier

The two have split their previous meetings, with each man claiming a finish. Gaethje stopped Poirier at UFC 291 in 2023, having previously been stopped by him in April 2018. Gaethje, 37, hinted at a possible retirement decision after the Topuria win.
