Ronda Rousey has been mostly silent since her brutal loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. She did not stick around to talk to the media after the 48-second defeat, and spoke only through a prewritten statement. Now Rousey has broken her silence in the form of a motivational quote on her Instagram page.
Quoting Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, Rousey posted a picture with the words "And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life."
While Rousey isn’t offering much in terms of clues about her future as a fighter, her post was surprising because of one of the responses it garnered: None other than Cris Cyborg, Rousey’s longtime rival and often detractor, chimed in.
In a comment on Rousey’s photo, Cyborg wrote:
"I was sad to see the loss of the sports star. But you have so much ahead of you and [are] blessed with the financial security to pursue all your passions. You opened the door for more promotion and grew into a sport icon. [Enjoy] the next chapter of life and know you’ve got amazing opportunities to continue changing the world.”
Cyborg has been chasing a fight with Rousey since before both women became household names. It appears she has taken the high road this time, offering Rousey words of encouragement after the brutal defeat.
Given Rousey’s last two fights and Cyborg’s current predicaments, MMA fans have largely written off the chances of the super-fight coming to fruition anyway.
