Ryan Garcia Eyes Boxing Bout With UFC Bantamweight Champ Sean O’Malley

Ryan Garcia wants to face the UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley in a boxing match.

Garcia and O’Malley have been trading verbal shots ever since the UFC fighter won the title by beating Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 last year. Sterling’s nine-fight-win streak ended, as O’Malley turned his attention to boxing Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.

“We’re both undefeated boxers. It just make sense. That’s what you do when you’re both undefeated boxers, you go out there and you see who’s the best. Before that I was calling out Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis before they fought. Gervonta beat Ryan and it’s just a fight I would like in the future,” O’Malley stated

Garcia wasn’t optimistic about O’Malley’s chances of beating Davis since he couldn’t do it himself, getting stopped by Tank in his only loss last April. But now Garcia is ready to go one better by facing the UFC fighter, provided he gets through Devin Haney on April 20.

The fight makes no sense if Garcia desires to be a world champion. Beating Haney will secure him a lucrative rematch as he is the challenger. Since Garcia has made big purses in other fights, namely against Gervonta Davis, which earned him $30 million, it is a risk he can avoid.

O’Malley’s focus is on beating Marlon Vera at UFC 299, making a Garcia fight unlikely. That is Sugar’s only loss on his record. Facing Garcia makes O’Malley a potential crossover star, given he is likely to get a bigger purse than fighting in the UFC. But that fight is way off since Sugar’s main aim is training for the Vera fight in May.
