Saudi Arabia Wants Crawford vs. Ennis

Saudi Arabia allegedly wants to make a fight between Terence Crawford and Jaron Ennis

Crawford is reportedly on course to fight Israil Madrimov on August 3 in the US. Saudi Arabia are working with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing to organise the event. This may signal Crawford’s development of close ties with Saudi Arabia and Matchroom. Ennis has signed a deal with Matchroom, stating his intention to fight Bud. That has created a narrative that Crawford vs. Ennis could happen.

Crawford must get past Madrimov, the WBA Junior Middleweight Champion before that can be considered. The bout is also allegedly for the WBO interim belt at 1154. But even if Bud wins, Crawford is unlikely to face Ennis at 147. Crawford is now 36, so facing a 26-year-old Ennis entering his prime is a massive gamble. Bud is also focused on fighting Canelo Alvarez, and Saudi Arabia is also reportedly keen on that.

That rules out a Canelo fight against David Benavidez. Saudi Arabia wants Benavidez to face the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol, who fight for undisputed at 175 on June 1. The Mexican Monster can put himself in a position for that fight if he beats Oleksandr Gvozdyk in a WBC Interim Light Heavyweight Title clash on June 15. If those plans play out, boxing fans will be in for a treat.
