Savate dates back to the early 19th century and is known under a variety of different names: “boxe française”, “Savate boxing”, “French boxing” and “French footfighting”. It’s a French kickboxing combat sport that uses the hands and feet as weapons combining elements of English boxing with graceful kicking techniques.
The sport is widely practiced within France and in some of the former French colonies.
