Sean Strickland Says He Will Fight Paulo Costa Next

Sean Strickland claims he has an agreement to fight Paulo Costa next.

Strickland is looking to bounce back from his recent setback. He won the UFC Middleweight Title against Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 last year with a unanimous decision. However, he lost his belt to Dricus Du Plessis in a controversial split decision at UFC 297. Dana White is on record saying he had Strickland winning. Strickland called for a rematch, but the South African is focused on an Adesanya fight.

Costa lost his last fight against Robert Whittaker at UFC 298. It was a huge setback after beating Luke Rockhold at UFC 278 last year. Costa was meant to fight Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294. However, he pulled out with an elbow infection as Kamaru Usman stepped in.

Costa claims Strickland rejected the fight initially. Strickland responded, stating he wanted more money. The American alleged he was getting less than $200,000 to fight and less than $200,000 to win. Now, Strickland has confirmed a verbal agreement for a UFC 302 clash at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on June 1.
