Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) was seen on video training with Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) during a recent session at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A four-division world champion, 29-year-old Stevenson is the reigning WBO junior welterweight world champion — a title he won in January when he out-pointed Teofimo Lopez in New York City.
Stevenson is reportedly in talks for a unification fight next against WBA title holder Gary Antuanne Russell (19-1-0, 17 KOs) — a bout rumored to take place on the same card as Conor Benn and Ryan Garcia’s fight on September 12 in Las Vegas.
Ahead of any fight coming to fruition, Mayweather was seen taking Stevenson on pads, and offering words of wisdom and encouragement while he pounded the heavy bag.
In Stevenson’s vlog, Mayweather was referred to as boxing’s GOAT, meaning the Greatest of all Time.
“Shout out to Floyd Mayweather for giving back to the next generation,” Stevenson said. “He hasn’t made one dollar with me but he extended his hand and gave me the game. Legend inside and outside the ring.”
The purpose of the experience, FIGHT SPORTS understands, as to unofficially begin camp for Stevenson’s next fight while also going over drills with Mayweather — specifically, the transitions of defense to offense and of offense to defense.
