Abel Sanchez, who trains unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin, said he has been informed that talks for a potential championship bout between Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.
World Boxing News reports that Sanchez told them an update on fight negotiations given to him from promoter Tom Loeffler.
"Tom tells me that they are progressing well with the negotiations," Sanchez said. "I really hope they are concluded as it’s a fight boxing needs. The fans need the best fights that can be made to happen."
Of course, there’s still the chance this fight will not come to fruition once again, so Golovkin would need a backup plan just in case. Sanchez said while his fighter "wants all the belts," he and Golovkin are not thinking about a move up to 168 just yet, and the champion will still have to first deal with mandatory challengers.

"At this point, we are not thinking about [a jump in weight class]," Sanchez said. "When you are a unified champion it comes with obligations. There are mandatories from all the organizations, so those need to be satisfied before we think about moving up."
Golovkin’s next bout is scheduled for March 18, when he is set to defend his WBA super, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight championships against WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs at Madison Square Garden.
"We are happy that we have a fight and we are getting this mandatory out of the way,” Sanchez said. "I’m hoping Danny Jacobs is true to his word and comes to fight. Everything about him and the things he has said — indicate that we will have a barnburner for as long it lasts on March 18. I’m afraid it won’t be good for him, though as nobody at 160 will last the distance with Golovkin.
"If they at least try to win, it could be better but I’m afraid he won’t see the end of this fight."
