Tom Aspinall Convinced Jon Jones Doesn’t Want To Fight

Tom Aspinall doubled down on his belief that Jon Jones does not want to fight him.

Jones has come out to say he has a ‘date’ for his next fight. His last fight was a win over Ciryl Gane, UFC 285, last year. Bones withdrew from his title defense against Stipe Miocic with a pectoral muscle injury. Dana White refused to strip Jones after Aspinall wanted to fight Miocic for the full belt.

Jones is now back in training with a view to a return. However, he has distanced himself from fighting Aspinall. He is eying a potential fight with Alex Pereira. The Brazilian has won titles at middleweight and light heavyweight. He is coming off a spectacular first-round KO victory over Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, retaining his light heavyweight belt. Jones felt the Pereira fight was much bigger.

“There’s absolutely no fight that generates a payday like that. Marketing would be insane. Tom only matters in the U.K., newsflash. Pereira is one of the most polarizing figures this sport has seen. Tom’s a contender who won a belt against another contender. We had to save Madison Square Garden’s main event. I’m thinking dollar signs, legacy, big picture here. Not what U.K. fans are dying to see,” Jones said

While Aspinall’s return has been confirmed for UFC 304, with a possible fight against Curtis Blaydes, the Brit was frustrated with Jones’ antics.

“If we can get old Jon to ever sign a contract with my name on the other side of the contract, I’ll talk about him for hours on this show. But right now, the guy’s playing games again. Trying to convince the public of what he wants, and what he doesn’t want. Which he does really well. As I said, we can chat about Jon if he, if and when, he ever signs a contract with my name on the other side of it. Right now, let’s be honest, it’s not looking very likely,” Aspinall stated
