Tszyu vs. Ortiz Being Considered On Crawford’s Card

Tim Tszyu vs. Vergil Ortiz is reportedly being considered as a junior middleweight bout for the Israil Madrimov vs. Terence Crawford card on August 3 in Los Angeles.

Tszyu is coming off a loss to Sebastian Fundora, where he lost his WBO Junior Middleweight Belt and the chance to win the vacant WBC belt. His performance was hampered by a cut over his hairline at the end of round two, which disrupted the momentum he had established by winning the first two rounds. While Fundora has promised to run things back, the rematch will likely happen later.

Ortiz is a dangerous opponent with an undefeated record of 20-0. He is alongside Artur Beterbiev as a fighter to have a 100 percent KO rate. Ortiz boxes Thomas Dulorme on April 27, knowing a victory is vital to secure the Tszyu bout. It will be Ortiz’s second fight at 154 since moving up from 147 because he could no longer make the weight. However, since Tszyu only fought on March 30, taking this fight in August is risky. A loss to Ortiz derails Tszyu’s career, as it would be a second consecutive defeat.
