Weili Zhang added yet another impressive victory to her long highlight reel this past Saturday night, with a dominant performance versus Tatiana Suarez, and now she has expressed she wants a fight with flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
Zhang retained her strawweight championship in UFC 312’s co-main event over Saurez, adding a 3rd title defense to her latest reign. Additionally, the 115-pound queen is now 10-2 in the UFC, with her only losses occurring back in 2021, both against Rose Namajunas.
With her most recent win behind her, many would have begun to question where she wants to take things next, but the question was answered immediately. During the UFC 312 post-fight press conference, Zhang stated that the fight with Shevchenko is what’s on her mind.
“Let’s talk with Dana later, but I think everything is about timing,” Zhang said of fighting Shevchenko. “So if there is a good time for both of us to make this fight happen, it happens.”
“To be honest, I don’t really care who is pound-for-pound No. 1 or No. 2.,” Zhang said. “It doesn’t really matter. What I care about is how can I just make myself better.”

In Dana White’s portion of the media scrum, he had high praise for Zhang and what she has accomplished in the sport. The UFC CEO even stated that the fight between the two women’s champions is a “possibility”, and we “may have to find out” who the pound-for-pound best is.
