Zion Hensley won gold at the 2023 USA Boxing National Qualifier in Detroit after coming second in the national competition the previous year.
Hensley trains under the guidance of Alicia Defrank and Rocky Defrank, and middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik.
And during her gold medal bout, the coaches of prominent boxers like Tyson Fury and Shakur Stevenson, as well as Claressa Shields, were present.

The Mahoning Valley prospect, Hensley, therefore, became the only three-time champion from the region.
And by the looks of it, she is hungry for more.
“It’s really good. Everyone’s supporting me and I’m glad that they are supporting me, and it’s really good to be a three-time national champion.
“I was working really hard, four hours a day in the gym and stuff. I ‘ve done more strength and conditioning than I was…But now I definitely move my head way more and it’s improved,” Hensley said.
Next up for Hensley is a bout on April 15th, 2023, at the Fight to Unite 4 event against Genesis Martinez. And that is something that Hensley is fully prepared for.
She added: “She has her fundamentals down, and she hits pretty hard, so I know that I’m gonna have to move with this girl and be more aggressive.”
