Ancajas’ Next Title Defense Set

IBF super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas looks to have his next title defense set.

Ancajas will defend his title against Mexican fighter Alejandro Santiago on September 29. The fight has no set location yet, but it is expected that the fight will take place in California.

The Filipino champion has already defended his title twice in 2018 with the first taking place in February when he stopped Israel Gonzalez in the 10th round of their fight. Ancajas’ last defense was in May when he defeated Jonas Sultan by unanimous decision on a card that also featured WBA super flyweight champion Kal Yafai fighting on the undercard. Ancajas has held the title since September 2016 when he defeated then-champion McJoe Arroyo to win the belt.

Santiago will be competing in his first world title fight. He has only fought once in 2018, which was a split draw against undefeated contender Jose Martinez back in March in Puerto Rico. It was the second time Santiago and Martinez had fought in their careers, with the first fight also ending in a draw.
