Andrade Not Expected To Fight Saunders In 2018
At Tuesday’s launch for Matchroom Boxing’s partnership with DAZN, Demetrius Andrade made his first initial appearance as a member of the Matchroom Boxing USA roster.
Andrade’s first opponent under the Matchroom banner has yet to be announced, but per a report from Boxing Scene it most certainly will not be Billy Joe Saunders.
Last week, Andrade was named the mandatory challenger for Saunders’ WBO middleweight championship, following Daniel Jacobs set for a fight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title this fall.
Talking with Boxing Scene on Tuesday, Andrade claimed that he’s open to the challenge. “I’m willing to get in there. If it happens to be him, it happens to be him. It doesn’t matter.”
Saunders expects that following last week’s announcement, that he’d expect to fight Andrade at some point in September.
“Listen, Billy Joe Saunders ain’t running anything,” Andrade said. “When we come to negotiations, agreements on when and where, everybody will know.”
“Listen, when the business is good, it doesn’t matter… If business is good, it doesn’t matter. That’s not my concern. That’s [Hearn’s] concern. People wanna see the fight, I want the fight, so we’re gonna make it work.”
