Andrade Wants GGG Next
With Canelo Alvarez’ dance card full with Daniel Jacobs on May 4th, WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade may have found his next opponent in a former world champion.
Following his TKO win over Artur Akavov at the Hulu Theater on Friday night, Andrade made it clear at the post-fight press conference that he wants world class competition.
“I would love to fight GGG (Gennady Golovkin) next if that fight can happen,” the Rhode Island native told reporters late Friday night.
“I just want to fight the big names of the division and prove that I am the number one fighter in the middleweight division.”
Hearn, who promotes both Andrade and Jacobs seems to side with his fighter claiming: “We’re looking to make the biggest fights possible that can be made. That was our plan with Canelo and Jacobs and we delivered.
“I wanted the Maurice Hooker vs Jorge Linares fight but that won’t happen now. We’re working on Kell Brook vs Jesse Vargas and Anthony Joshua will either box in April or June. There is some big announcements coming in the next few weeks.”
Not much is known of Golovkin’s plans, as the former unified world champion has kept mum on not only who is next opponent will be, but what network he will sign to following the closing of HBO’s boxing division.
