Andre Ward Responds to Mayweather’s Criticism

Earlier this week Floyd Mayweather touched on all of the hottest topics in the world of boxing, but one comment in particularly stirred up controversy: his criticism of Andre Ward and his insistence that Ward’s trainer Virgil Hunter is overrated.

When offering his take on who the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing is, Mayweather was quick to shoot down the opinion that Ward should be ranked #1 after defeating Sergey Kovalev in November. According to Mayweather, Ward deserved to lose that fight and will need to "make some major changes" if he is to fight Kovalev again.

Ward took to Instagram to respond to Mayweather’s comments.

"Floyd – I’m not taking the bait, but I will say this," Ward wrote. "When is it going to stop? How many more people are you going to lash out at? You’re in a position to build up the sport of boxing and the people in it and not tear it down. Especially the younger generation. Be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. Don’t become another "Critic" the very ones you’ve been fighting your whole career. Especially toward the ones who go through the same things you do. All the lashing out may make headlines, but it’s not a good look bro. We need to choose our words wisely, the people are listening.”
