Andy Ruiz: I Killed The Old Version Of Myself

Andy Ruiz Jr. says he has killed off the older version of himself.

Ruiz has made it clear that he feels he made a mistake in his preparation for the Anthony Joshua rematch. Ruiz weighed 283.7 pounds for the rematch and he ended up losing the fight via unanimous decision. It wasn’t the way Ruiz wanted to follow up his shocking TKO win over Joshua in their first meeting.

During the final pre-fight press conference for his showdown with Chris Arreola, Ruiz said the version of him that once was no longer exists (via BoxingScene.com).

“Right now, I’m motivated. I kind of did a self-death to myself. I killed the old Andy and am reborn with the new Andy.”

“I let my family and a lot of people down. That’s why I had to make a big change. I know what I am capable of doing. I know what I accomplished and I know that I have inside to become a two-time Mexican heavyweight champion of the world. That’s exactly what I need to do.

“I need to (climb) back up the ladder and get on top. Being disciplined and working hard on the things I need to do is going to take me that far.”

Ruiz vs. Arreola will take place on Saturday, May 1. It’ll air live on PBC on FOX PPV.
