Andy Ruiz Jr. Could Face Jail Time As Wilder-Fury 4 Potentially Lined Up
Andy Ruiz Jr. could reportedly face jail time due to allegations of abuse amid his split from his wife, Julia Lemus.
The former unified heavyweight champion had the world at his feet when he gave Anthony Joshua his first-ever-career defeat.
However, things did not last as Ruiz Jr. came in underprepared for the rematch, which caused him to lose the belts.
While reports suggest that Ruiz, Jr. could be set to face Tyson Fury for the WBC belt, there may be another spanner in the works.
According to TMZ, Lemus claimed that Ruiz Jr. subjected her to sexual, physical, and psychological abuse during their relationship, making her feel constantly anxious and uneasy.
She also alleges that Ruiz Jr. subjected their two children and her to physical and emotional abuse. Additionally, she asserts that Ruiz has issues with drugs and alcohol.
“He began grabbing me by my upper arms and physically yanking me in order to move me wherever he wanted me to go,” Lemus
According to World Boxing News, legal proceedings might prevent Ruiz Jr. from entering the UK, which could impact Fury’s plans for his upcoming fight.
If that is the case, the ‘Gypsy King’ could look elsewhere, including Joe Joyce or Zhilei Zhang if the pair do not have a rematch. And another name that has emerged as a shock contender is none other than Deontay Wilder.
Despite the duo having had a trilogy, Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, has hinted at a shock opponent, fueling speculation that it could be Fury, with claims that there have been talks for a fight.
“It’s down to the mystery opponent and Andy Ruiz Jr. Since AJ [Anthony Joshua] has made up his mind and does not want to fight Deontay right now, we’re down to Andy Ruiz and the mystery guy [Fury].
“The mystery fighter is not as guaranteed to happen as the Ruiz fight. If you’re looking at it from the business perspective, it will most likely be the mandatory shot, Ruiz,” Scott
