Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs) has hinted about a potential fight with Deontay Wilder.
The 32-year-old wants to fight Wilder by next May on the Cinco de Mayo holiday weekend.
“Deontay Wilder, hopefully, you win. We can get it on. That’s what the people want. Let’s get it,” said Ruiz Jr to Fighthype following his win over Luis Ortiz Sunday night.
Even though Wilder hasn’t denied the possibility of this match, he already has an incoming matchup against Robert Helenius on October 15.
“God willing, he wins in October. We’re in the same organization. We can make this fight happen,” Ruiz added.
“Wilder has got just the right hand. He didn’t get the left. He’s got the right. He’s going to get Wilder. You’re going to see. Remember, I told you, he’s going to get King Kong.
“I told you he’s going to get Anthony Joshua. He’s going to knock out Wilder. He’s not the same guy. The guy he’s fighting in October, he’s going to have a hard time with this guy [Robert Helenius]. Maybe shock the world. With tall guys, they’re different because they’re right here.”
Wilder already accepted the challenge.
“I’m on a tear for whatever and whenever. Deontay Wilder is back, and I don’t duck no fights,” said Wilder to Fight Hub TV.
“If that’s [Ruiz] the most exciting fight after I handle business, so be it, let it be. I’m willing and ready and able. They all know that. Everybody in the heavyweight division knows what Deontay Wilder brings,”
