Andy Ruiz Jr Taking On Luis Ortiz On August 13 In Los Angeles
Andy Ruiz is returning to the ring for a fight some fans have been waiting for.
Ruiz confirmed to ESPN Knockout that he will be taking on Luis Ortiz on August 13 in Los Angeles at the Crypto.com Arena. He said he’s looking to prove he’s ready for a title shot again and silence Ortiz for calling him a coward.
“My son is going to shut up the one who dared to call him a coward,” Ruiz Sr. told ESPN KNOCKOUT.
“Andy is very motivated, he is ready to show the world that he belongs to the elite of heavyweights and that he is not afraid of anyone,” he added.
News broke earlier this month that Ruiz was fighting Tyrone Spong on July 16 for a Triller main event, but Ruiz reportedly had signed to face Ortiz first, pushing back the Spong matchup.
Ruiz (34-2, 33 KOs) previously held the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles after a shocking win over Anthony Joshua, but he lost the straps in their rematch. His last outing was against Chris Arreola in May, which resulted in a unanimous decision win despite hitting the floor early in the fight.
Ortiz (33-2, 28 KOs), meanwhile, last scored a TKO over Charles Martin in January.
